 WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

  • A HOLD MEANS THAT YOUR DATE IS NOT CONFIRMED, BUT YOU’RE HOLDING IT.

    IF YOU’RE A 2ND, 3RD, AND SO ON HOLD, THAT MEANS THAT SOMEONE ELSE ASKED FOR THE DATE FIRST AND IS AHEAD OF YOU FOR IT.

    YOU STILL HAVE A CHANCE FOR THE DATE IF YOU CHALLENGE THE DATE.

    TO CHALLENGE THE DATE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE:

    • A FULL LINE UP CONFIRMED

    • EVERYONE IS GOOD FOR THE RADIUS CLAUSE

    • TICKET PRICE

  • A RADIUS CLAUSE IS HOW MANY DAYS/WEEKS BEFORE AND AFTER A SHOW WHERE YOU CAN’T HAVE ANY OTHER SHOWS.

    THIS HELPS PREVENT OVER SATURATION.

    ** UNDERGROUND MUSIC VENUE (AND ZHORA DARLING) HAVE A RADIUS CLAUSE OF NO SHOWS AT LEAST 10 DAYS BEFORE OR AFTER THE SHOW DATE.

    “BUT I WANT TO PLAY OUT AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE BECAUSE I WANT TO MAKE A CAREER OF THIS”

    OVER SATURATING YOURSELF IS ONE OF THE WORST THINGS YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR CAREER. IF YOU PLAY 2-3 TIMES WITHIN A TWO WEEK SPAN, WHY WOULD A FAN FEEL THE NEED TO COME TO ALL OF THESE?

    IF A VENUE IS LETTING YOU PLAY THEIR VENUE AND YOU DON’T BRING ANYONE BECAUSE YOU HAVE MULTIPLE SHOWS IN THAT SAME TIME FRAME THAT YOU’RE PROMOTING, THAT HURTS THE VENUE REVENUE AS WELL AS YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE VENUE.

    WHY WOULD A VENUE WANT TO GIVE YOU A NIGHT OR ADD YOU AS SUPPORT FOR A TOURING ARTIST, IF YOU’RE PLAYING CONSTANTLY?

  • THE GUEST LIST IS NOT TO LOAD UP ALL YOUR FRIENDS ONTO SO THEY CAN GET IN FOR FREE.

    UNLESS YOUR FRIEND IS UNABLE TO PAY FOR VALID REASONS, YOUR FRIENDS SHOULD WANT TO SPEND MONEY TO SEE YOU!

    YOUR GUEST LIST SHOULD HAVE PHOTOGS, SHOW REVIEWERS, POTENTIAL BOOKING AGENTS/LABEL FOLK, YOUR PARENTS.

  • PROPER EMAIL ETIQUETTE IS WAITING A WEEK TO FOLLOW UP.

    VENUES RECEIVES TOO MANY EMAILS EVERY WEEK, AND IT TAKES QUITE A WHILE TO REPLY AND SORT THROUGH THEM.

    ** I WAS OUT OF TOWN FOR A WEEK AND CAME HOME TO OVER 600 EMAILS. THIS WAS FOR UMV & ZHORA BUT THAT’S STILL CRAZY.

    • SOCIAL MEDIA & MUSIC LINKS (SPOTIFY & INSTAGRAM ARE TYPICALLY THE BEST TO SEND)

    • BIO (INCLUDE HOMETOWN & GENRE)

    • PROMO IMAGES & VIDEOS (LIVE OR PROFESSIONAL)

    • IF YOU’RE FROM OUT OF TOWN: HAVE A LIST OF PAST SHOWS IN THAT MARKET READY

    • STAGE PLOT AND/OR INPUT LIST

    • KNOW THE DATES YOU’RE INTERESTED IN, BUT BE FLEXIBLE - DON’T JUST ASK FOR WEEKEND DATES

    • HAVE A REASON FOR THE SHOW: PEOPLE ARE MORE LIKELY TO COME OUT IF YOU’RE CELEBRATING SOMETHING - IT’S ALSO EASIER TO PROMOTE!

    • VENUES DON’T CARE ABOUT YOUR EPK
